Paying half your payment every two weeks results in 26 half-payments, or 13 full payments, a year. That one extra payment shortens the loan — the same effect you get by adding 1/12 of a payment monthly.

The savings come from the extra principal, not from the schedule itself. Confirm your servicer applies it that way and does not just hold funds.
Third-party biweekly programs that charge a fee usually are not worth it, since you can do the same thing yourself.
Model the equivalent extra monthly amount to see the payoff date and interest saved.
